La Petite Afrique by Isay Weinfeld: From Concept to Creation
A BESPOKE SOLUTION FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL SITE
In the heart of dazzling Monte Carlo, within the coveted “Carré d’Or”, La Petite Afrique blends seamlessly into its surroundings. This boutique apartment tower, which overlooks the fabulous gardens of the iconic Monte Carlo Casino, was the first project by FPMC. In order to craft the finest property for this exquisite site, FPMC organised an international ideas competition, inviting ten renowned architectural firms from across the globe to participate by designing a unique proposal in response to the carefully created brief.
The brief for the project called for the design of a new environmentally sustainable luxury apartment building containing several above-ground apartments, retail and office space, with below-ground entertainment space, services and parking. A spectacular penthouse was envisioned for the top of the building.
The competition resulted in an array of superb architectural solutions for this prestigious central plot between Boulevard des Moulins and Avenue de la Madone. Ultimately, the refined contemporary concept by the celebrated Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld was chosen for its high liveability and its sensitivity to the local landscape.
ARCHITECTURE
A discreet landmark in harmony with its surroundings.
La Petite Afrique is the epitome of elegance. The façade is a harmonious combination of similar tones and textures, with bronzite stone cladding on the street-level retail units and bronze cladding on the upper levels. Sweeping stacked terraces filled with luxuriant greenery become an extension of the lush gardens of the nearby Casino. Rather than standing out as an architectural statement, La Petite Afrique is a building with a timeless quality that blends seamlessly into the urban fabric of the city.

The building has been thoughtfully designed to offer a sophisticated lifestyle experience in tastefully stylish surroundings of the highest quality. From the concealed entrance, which provides adequate privacy and security, to the sizeable plant-filled flower boxes on all terraces, which act as natural acoustic and visual filters, each spacious home has been designed to offer enhanced levels of comfort to residents. The ‘frameless’ glazing connects the serene living areas to the extensive outdoor space for contemporary indoor-outdoor living.
